Metabolic Flux Analysis Positions
The new US Department of Energy Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC) has two openings for postdoctoral research on metabolic flux analysis (MFA) of biofuel-producing microbes. The positions will be available in Jan. 2008 or as soon thereafter as possible and are located in the Plant Biology Department at Michigan State University. These positions involve mapping fluxes through central metabolism in bacteria and fungi to understand metabolic alterations in engineered, selected and evolved strains. We are seeking highly motivated individuals interested in working in collaboration with an interdisciplinary group of microbiologists, engineers and computational biologists to understand and improve biofuel and bioenergy production. This is an outstanding opportunity to play a significant role in research to meet an important global challenge of the 21st century, sustainable energy independence.
A Ph.D. in microbiology, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical or biological engineering or a related field and a strong publication record are essential. Excellent communication skills are required. Experience with MFA is highly desirable. Applicants without experience in MFA should have significant experience with at least two of the following: metabolic biochemistry, microbial physiology, Mass Spectrometry, or NMR spectroscopy.
Applications should be submitted as a single pdf file and include a statement of interest, CV, and names and contact information for 3 professional references. Applications or requests for further information should be sent to Dr. Yair Shachar-Hill. Application review will begin January 1st, 2008. Michigan State University is an Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer. More information about the GLBRC can be found at www.greatlakesbioenergy.org/.
